Research

General Information

To date, there are several clinical pro- and retrospective studies running which are aimed to perform a functional evaluation and analysis of the results of treatment, including postoperative course, rate of local/ systemic recurrence and survival rates following different onco-surgical treatments. During the regular ambulance visits for tumor-specific aftercare (incl. restaging) patients are careffully evaluated and a follow-up report is made using different documentation systems. For example:

  • patients who underwent limb-salvage surgery and prosthetic replacement of large joints
  • patients who suffered from soft tissue sarcoma and were treated by resection ( incl. with blood vessel reconstruction)
  • patients who were treated by hemipelvectomies and subsequent endoprosthetic pelvic replacement
  • patients with spinal tumors or metastasis treated by palliative resection (laminectomy and stabilization) or radical resection (incl. total vertebrectomy and en bloc spondylectomy)

Different experimental studies designed to analyze oncological and tumor-surgical questions are scheduled and will be performed in the research facilities of the Department for Trauma- and Reconstructive Surgery at the Biomedical Research Center, Charité, Campus Virchow.
