Therapeutic oncosurgical spectrum

General information

The Muskuloskeletal Tumor Surgery Service at the Department of Trauma & Reconstructive Surgery, Charité, Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin covers all state-of-the-art operative techniques of surgical oncology involving the extremities, pelvis, trunc, chest wall and spine. The entire spectrum of oncological orthopedic surgery ranging from simple excisions and resections without the need for plastic reconstruction or specific tumor-prosthetic replacement of the affected joints/ extremities up to multivisceral resections with reconstruction of bone, blood vessels and an adequate soft tissue coverage (including free flap transfer) is sucessfully performed.
The choice of surgical procedure is applied in the context of integrated cancer therapy which considers both, tumor-and patient specific characteristics.

Apart from general oncological treatment principles of surgical therapy for primary or secondary bone- and soft tissue tumors as well as metastatic disease the following chapter should give an overview of the disease-specific distinctions of these three entities.
